Ligue1.com – Deschamps: ‘Reached our objective’

France coach Didier Deschamps was circumspect after his much-changed side drew 0-0 with Denmark to top Group C, while opposite number Age Hareide was full of praise for a Les Bleus side he thinks could go all the way in Russia.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Group C, Matchday 3

Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow

Denmark 0 – 0 France

Age Hareide (Denmark coach): “France have a formidable team. They’re very fast and they have excellent starters and subs. We saw their previous matches and noticed how good they are on the counter. Every time their opponents slipped up, France took advantage. The big teams get stronger as the tournament progresses and I think France will be no exception. They have talent, both individually and collectively. Other big teams had problems, like Argentina and Germany, but I’m sure France will go very far, perhaps even as far as the title.”

Didier Deschamps (France coach): “We reached our objective and that was the most important thing. It wasn’t a non-match, although perhaps, towards the end, it was a bit when Denmark decided to just play for the draw that would see them safely through. We had seven chances but didn’t manage a goal. The longer the match went on, the better the draw was for them, while for us there was no sense in taking unnecessary risks. [On the difficulties Les Bleus have been having in attack] It’s tough for everyone. Spain or Germany, with their reputations for attacking football, have also been struggling. Will things open up more in the round of 16? I don’t know; I hope so.”
