UEFA Champions League: Valletta to face Albania’s Kukesi in first qualifying round

Local champions Valletta were drawn to meet Albania’s FK Kukesi in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League. The draw was made on Tuesday in Nyon.

Valletta will play the first leg in Albania on the 10th or 11th July, with the return leg at The Centenary Stadium in Ta’ Qali seven days later.

If Valletta manage to qualify for the second qualifying round, they would face the winner of the clash between Slovenia’s Olimpija Ljubljana and Azerbaijan’s Qarabag.

If on the other hand Valletta are eliminated in this round by Kukesi, they will continue their European adventure in the second round of the UEFA Europa League. In this case Valletta will meet the loser of the clash between Bosnia’s Zrinjski and Slovakia’s Spartak Trnava.

On Wednesday, Balzan will know their fate after the draw of the Europa League second qualifying round. Birkirkara and Gzira United will also know their eventual second qualifying round opponents if they manage to eliminate KI Klaksvik and Sant Julia respectively, their first qualifying round opponents.
