As MLS refs head to the World Cup, go behind the scenes with Video Review

For the first time in World Cup history, referees will have a resource that was previously available to everyone watching except the officials – a second look, thanks to Video Review. Video Review has been in practice for over a year in MLS, however this is the first World Cup tournament that will have the technology in place, and while it is another resource for referees to utilize.

Meanwhile, Major League Soccer and PRO are sending five officials to Russia; two head referees: Mark Geiger and Jair Marrufo, and three assistant referees: Frank Anderson, Joe Fletcher, and Corey Rockwell. Not only is it a significant personal achievement for those individuals who have worked so hard to reach the pinnacle of referring, but that number is also more than any other league sending officials to the quadrennial tournament.
