Philadelphia Union 0, Toronto FC 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

Toronto FC beat the Philadelphia Union on a Friday in early May, and they repeated that feat on Friday, downing the Union 2-0 at Talen Energy Stadium.

The game, a feisty affair that seemed at several points to be on the brink of turning nasty, did not feature a great quantity of scoring chances, and Sebastian Giovinco was kept quiet, aside from an assist late in the match.

Toronto opened the scoring in the 19th minute, as Victor Vazquez sent an exquisite ball to Jonathan Osorio, with the Homegrown midfielder burying his third goal in MLS play this season. He doubled that tally in the 79th minute, as he sealed the win and the season series for Toronto against the Union.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: TFC are trying to climb back into the reckoning in the Eastern Conference, and every win is huge at this stage. The Union, meanwhile, are going to rue losing at home with one of the expected contenders struggling so much coming in.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: For a game that was chippy throughout, the opening goal was the key play in the game.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: The easy choice here is Osorio, who is one goal off his single-season high of five goals in league play, and is playing like he will smash that total before long.
