Tottenham have exercised an option in goalkeeper Michel Vorm’s contract to extend his stay at the club until 2019.

The 34-year-old has been second choice behind captain Hugo Lloris since joining the club from Swansea City in 2014, making 43 appearances in all competitions for the North London side.

“The club can confirm that we have activated the option to extend Michel Vorm’s contract until 2019,” Tottenham said on their website.

Vorm has been mainly used as a cup goalkeeper by Spurs, with only 11 of his 43 games coming in the Premier League, but began to captain the side this season.

The Dutch shot-stopper becomes the fifth Tottenham player to extend their contract this summer, following in the footsteps of Kyle Walker-Peters, Davinson Sanchez, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Harry Winks.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino also signed a new five-year contract at the end of May.
