Vieira could be set to take his first manager’s job in Europe
Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira is on the verge of becoming the new Nice manager, according to reports.
Before appointing former Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery, the Gunners were linked with a move for the current New York City boss.
Vieira, who played for the north Londoners on 406 occasions, was reportedly disappointed when talks progressed no further than what the former France international described as a ‘token gesture’.
But according to The Times, he is now finally set for a move away from MLS and into Europe.
Ligue 1 side Nice want the 1998 World Cup winner to guide the club into the Europa League and push on from an eight-placed finish last season.
The President of the French side, Jean-Pierre Rivere, wants to appoint Vieira by the weekend.
After gaining his coaching badges with Manchester City’s Under-23 side, the 41-year-old left for New York and guided the side to second in his first season.
He will have to cope without maverick striker Mario Balotelli, who left the club to become a free agent earlier this month.
