Zinedine Zidane’s shock resignation from Real Madrid will no doubt leave plenty of interest in his services. However, his suitors are apparently interested in him as a player as well as manager!
The France legend abruptly called time on his reign at Real Madrid after two and a half seasons with the club, and days after securing a third successive Champions League crown.
After a run in the Spanish capital that also included a La Liga title in 2016-17, and Zidane’s youth for a head coach at age 45, it seems likely he will have many suitors hoping to land him as a manager in the near future.
Meanwhile, Ligue 1 side Amiens SC just completed the season in 13th place – while an unremarkable finish on the surface, it was the club’s first year in the French top flight in their 117 year history.
After news of Zidane’s resignation broke, the team took to Twitter to offer themselves up as a potential landing spot. However, Amiens manager Christophe Pelissier need not worry – not only is a team like that is unlikely to secure the services of Zidane the manager, the offer was for Zidane to return to the field as a player!
The tweet said: “Zinedine, If you want to come back into service as a player, we’re up for it!”
Of course, Zidane last suited up as a player in the 2006 World Cup and retired immediately following defeat in the final, so he is going on 12 years since taking the field in an official game.
Back then Amiens were in Ligue 2, though they would eventually drop out of the division before managing to secure impressive back-to-back promotions in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

The tongue is likely planted firmly in cheek for this offer of course, but it certainly would draw plenty of attention for the second-year Ligue 1 side if Zidane were to show interest.
