Bafana Bafana striker Luther Singh looking forward to playing in Uefa Europa League

The forward, who represented South Africa at the 2017 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, joined Braga last year from Swedish side GAIS on a free transfer

South Africa international Luther Singh says he is close to fulfilling his dream of playing in one of Europe’s top leagues.

The 20-year-old striker recently signed a five-year deal with Portuguese Primeira Liga club Sporting Braga, after impressing while playing for the club’s reserve team during the recent 2017/18 season.

Singh hit the back of the net 11 times and grabbed four assists for Braga in the Portuguese Segunda Liga.

Braga’s first team qualified for next season’s Uefa Europa League after finishing fourth on the Primeira Liga standings.

“This is a different level. The first team plays in the Europa League, and that has always been my dream to play in one of these top competitions,” Singh told the media.

“Now I have the opportunity in front of me – I just have to learn from my teammates and fit in well with the group and good things will come my way,” he continued.

“When the day comes for me to play in the competition, it will be a dream come true for me as it is really important for me to play against the best players,” he added.

Singh, who is currently part of the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2018 Cosafa Cup, is relishing the opportunity of one day playing in the biggest club tournament in the world, Uefa Champions League.

“Words can’t describe how I will feel when that day comes but I know it will be an honour for me to represent my team, and South Africa in a big competition like that which is a stepping stone to play UEFA Champions League,” he said.

“This past season we were close to play the play-offs but we never made it. God willing we will be there next season,” he concluded.
