Ligue 1 club explore deal for outgoing Manchester City legend Yaya Touré – City Watch

Ligue 1 side Marseille have made inquiries about signing Yaya Touré when his Manchester City deal runs out at the end of June, according to French publication L’Equipe.

Touré, 35, has said his farewells to City fans and staff, and is now looking for a new club, with Manuel Pellegrini’s West Ham predictably the first to be seriously linked with him.

From France comes news of another suitor, with Marseille sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta exploring the feasibility of signing the Ivorian midfielder on a free transfer after determining that another target, Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini, would demand too high of a salary.

Touré shares the same equipment manufacturer as Marseille, Puma, which could lead to the sportswear giant playing some part in any potential deal.

The iconic midfielder would have to accept a lesser salary than he was on at City to join Marseille’s project, and he is expected to bide his time and understand his other options. There is interest from China, but he is not keen on that option, and a stay in England is his priority if any solid offers arrive.
