Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal return to full training

With the UCL final on the horizon, the FC panel assess Gareth Bale’s recent form and debate whether it merits a place in Zinedine Zidane’s XI.

Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal returned to full training on Tuesday afternoon with their teammates.

Both players will be available for Saturday’s La Liga game at Villarreal, the team’s final match ahead of the following weekend’s Champions League final against Liverpool on May 26.

Portugal captain Ronaldo has not played since spraining his ankle while scoring in the 2-2 Clasico draw at Barcelona on May 6, while Spain right-back Carvajal has been out with a hamstring problem since the UCL semifinal first leg at Bayern Munich on April 25.

Confirmation that Ronaldo and Carvajal were ready to take a full part in training again came in a club statement released following the afternoon session.

“The Real Madrid squad completed their first training session of the week as preparations ahead of Saturday’s La Liga encounter against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica (8:45pm CEST) got under way,” the statement said. “Cristiano Ronaldo and Dani Carvajal trained alongside their teammates, which meant that Zinedine Zidane had a full squad available to him.

“The workout began with a circuit consisting of three different exercises that combined fitness and ball work. Next up, the madridistas worked on possession and pressure and the session was rounded off with several games on reduced-sized pitches. Under-19s goalkeeper Darío was drafted in for the session.”

Madrid’s players were given two days off following Saturday’s 6-0 La Liga victory over Celta Vigo at the Bernabeu, with Ronaldo confident enough about his recovery to spend some time relaxing in Ibiza, while goalkeeper Keylor Navas was in Cannes promoting a new biopic film about his life
