LONDON — Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil could be out for his team’s final two games of the season, Arsene Wenger has said.

Ozil was left out of the squad for Wenger’s final home game against Burnley on Sunday, three days after he was heavily criticised for his performance in the 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Europa League semifinal second leg.

Wenger said in in his prematch interview that the Germany international has “a recurrence of his back problem,” and added: “How long is he out, I don’t know. I don’t think he’ll be available for the rest of the season.”

Arsenal have two Premier League games left after Burnley as they play at Leicester City on Wednesday and travel to Huddersfield Town on the final day of the campaign.

Ozil is set to be named in Joachim Low’s squad that will travel to Russia for this summer’s World Cup finals. The defending champions’ first match is against Mexico in Moscow on June 17.
