Roma president James Pallotta is facing discipline from UEFA for his comments about the refereeing after his team were knocked out of the Champions League semifinals by Liverpool on Wednesday.
Pallotta said after the game that the officiating was “an absolute joke” and outlined a number of decisions that he believed went against Roma.
UEFA responded by charging Palotta on Friday with improper conduct, and its disciplinary panel will hear the case on May 31.
Both clubs were also charged after their supporters set off fireworks during the game.
Pallotta also responded on Thursday to ESPN FC analyst Alejandro Moreno’s comments about Roma’s performance, ridiculing him for “a stupid comment.”
Although Roma won 4-2 on Wednesday, Liverpool advanced 7-6 on aggregate to reach the final against Real Madrid on May 26 in Kiev, Ukraine.
