According to news outlet Don Balon, Chelsea superstar David Luiz has reportedly rejected a move to Real Madrid as he is waiting for Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco.
Despite playing an imperative part in Chelsea’s Premier League title-winning campaign last season, David Luiz has not managed to assert himself into Antonio Conte’s first team this term. The Brazilian central defender has lost his starting spot to youngster Andreas Christensen, but there are a few undercurrents that are deeper than what meets the eye.
Luiz had criticized his manager Conte’s tactics earlier this season after a 3-0 loss to Serie A side AS Roma. This led to Luiz being immediately dropped from the Italian’s plans and the two have had a rather bitter relationship ever since. And this bizarre turn of events has never been sorted out which has caused unrest among the two. Conte had initially stated that Luiz was injured but was spotted in training all along fueling speculations of a discomfort between Conte and Luiz.
Luiz Rejects Madrid For Monaco
Before his second coming at Chelsea, Luiz did spend two seasons in the French League winning all four domestic trophies with Paris Saint Germain over two seasons. But this time it could be a new challenge for the frizzy-haired defender as he is waiting on AS Monaco to call him up. Due to the issues with Conte, Luiz has been linked with an exit from the West London side in the summer transfer window.
The 31-year-old has also snubbed interest from European champions Real Madrid in order to play for Monaco. But Chelsea fans will feel as if it’s a slight boost because if there is a change in management next season, it could keep Luiz at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz certainly still has a lot to offer and his demand from the Los Blancos speaks volumes of his abilities. It’s just sour grapes with Conte and none of them, Luiz or Conte has looked past this silly mess, Chelsea could do well with Luiz as he was one of their best defenders last season and he would be itching for more game time.
