THE MATCH

How Toulouse needed the spoils after a run of eight games without a win and this was not a straightforward task give that Angers had been beaten only once in their previous seven matches.

Toulouse had won 1-0 at Angers earlier in the season and Mickaël Debève’s team were on course for their desired result from the 42nd minute when they opened the scoring. Ludovic Butelle had done well to deny home centre-half Christopher Jullien but Gradel recovered the ball and crossed low and hard. Sanogo was there to finish from close range for his fourth goal in six games.

Angers hadn’t produced much and were even more up against it from the hour mark when Gradel sent Butelle the wrong way from the spot after Romain Thomas had fouled the lively Sanogo. To compound Thomas’ woes he hurt himself in the act of committing the foul and had to be replaced by Mateo Pavlovic.

Angers’ ace marksman Karl Toko Ekambi was kept in check by the TFC rearguard that managed a first clean sheet since a 0-0 against Amiens in mid-February. Toulouse moved a provisional four points clear of the bottom three thanks to the success and could have added a third late on when Somalia nodded a Gradel cross wide.

THE PLAYER: Yaya Sanogo

The former Arsenal forward has scored four of Toulouse’s last six goals at Le Stadium and the 25-year-old’s form could be the difference between TFC staying up and going down. The 1m91 hitman proved he can be a real handful when 100% fit and motivated.

THE STAT: 11

Toulouse have been awarded a Ligue 1 Conforama-high 11 penalties this season, nine of the spot-kicks being given in home games.
