Minnesota United reaches loan agreement for Peru winger Alexi Gomez

An early own goal helped Atlanta United hold on for the win against Minnesota United after being reduced to 10 men before halftime.

Minnesota United has reached a loan agreement for Peru international winger Alexi Gomez, the club announced on Wednesday.

Gomez, who can play left-back, left midfield and left wing, is set to join Minnesota on a one-year loan with an option to buy.

“We are delighted to bring a player of Alexi’s quality to the club,” said Minnesota manager Adrian Heath.

“He’s a very dynamic player, he’s an incredible server of the ball on set pieces and he’s composed on the ball. He’s versatile, he’s a player who can play four different positions on the field.

“It’s a no-brainer for us. I know he’s excited to be here and we are all looking forward to getting to work with him.”

Gomez, 25, comes to MLS from Peruvian side Club Universitario de Deportes.

Gomez spent three months last season on loan with Liga MX club Atlas.
