Jiangsu Suning complete Richmond Boakye signing

Jiangsu Suning have completed the signing of Ghana international Richmond Boakye from Red Star Belgrade.

Pulse Ghana confirmed the move on Tuesday, with the 25-year-old joining Fabio Capello’s side on a three-year deal, according to The Sun.

Ahead of the January transfer window, the powerful hitman was linked with a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea all understood to be keen on his services.

Indeed, Boakye had been signed by Blues boss Antonio Conte when the latter was with Juventus in 2012, but struggled to make the grade in Turin.

He will now link up with former Chelsea midfielder Ramires, Italy international Gabriel Paletta and Cameroon’s African Nations Cup-winning captain Benjamin Moukandjo in China.

After struggling to break through at Juve, Boakye spent time with Sassuolo and Elche before signing permanently for Atalanta in 2014.

He subsequently spent time with Roda JC and Latina, but it was a move to Serbia in 2017 that breathed life into his career, and he netted 42 goals in 48 games for club and country last year.

He’s shone in the Serbian league so far this term, firing home 23 in 28 for the domestic giants.
